How long before I can paint new plaster?
Fresh plaster needs to dry fully before decorating, usually around a week for a skim depending on the room, ventilation and time of year. It will turn from dark to light pink as it dries. Start with a watered-down mist coat so the paint bonds properly.
Can you plaster over artex?
Yes, in most cases artex can be skimmed over after the right preparation, giving you a smooth modern ceiling without the mess of removal. Neil will confirm the best approach when he sees it.

How much does plastering a room cost?
It depends on the size of the room, the condition of the existing surfaces and whether boarding is needed. Send a couple of photos with rough dimensions and you will get a fair, fixed price with no obligation.
Why does new plaster look dark and patchy at first?
Fresh plaster is dark pink or brown while it's still wet, and lightens to a more even, pale pink as it dries out over the following days. Patchy colouring during drying is normal and not a sign of a problem, it simply reflects moisture leaving the plaster at different rates across the surface.
Is plastering a job I could do myself?
A small patch repair is within reach of a confident DIYer, but getting a full skim flat, level and trowelled to a smooth finish takes real practice, since plaster starts setting within the hour and mistakes are hard to correct once it's going off. A wall that looks slightly wavy under paint is one of the most common signs of a DIY skim.
How do I choose the right plasterer?
Ask to see photos of finished walls under raking light, since that's where an uneven skim shows up most clearly, rather than photos taken straight-on which can hide a multitude of problems.
